Abstract: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, students around the world are forced to stay at home. Without dedicated teachers, education quality across the globe is significantly lowered. Our goal is to design an application that can act as an all-in-one hub for education for both students and teachers designed for the Malaysian syllabus. This idea started from our observation of how unsatisfactory services such as Google Classroom are. Currently, resources available to students consist of scattered, incomplete, or no longer available blogs and websites. Other resources, like Khan Academy, aren’t designed with the Malaysian syllabus in mind. We hypothesized that the uses of specific color and design in the learning environment would help to entice and keep the student’s attention. From the hypothesis, an idea to design an application named “Permata” came to our mind which will have the following features; pre-made lessons and tests based on the Malaysian syllabus, class creation, notes, video sharing, and assignments from teachers. This application will also have a calendar with assignments deadline, a “to-do” list with customizable goals, built-in education games, and many more. With our programming skills, we’ll be using the Java language program in Android Studio Software to develop our project. The application will be designed with primary school students in mind. As such, attention retention of students will be the main focus of the design. Research on how to keep attention will be done, in order to find ways to best keep students’ attention. Other potential psychological influencers such as color will also be considered while designing the application. We hope that this will spark further development in this area, not only helping students in Malaysia but also students from around the world.
